Mitsubishi Trucks
Workhorses of note from DaimlerChrysler

IN JANUARY 2003 DaimlerChrysler AG recently bought 43% of the spun-off commercial vehicle business from Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. DaimlerChrysler South Africa was one of the first markets to incorporate Mitsubishi Motors products in its line-up when it took over responsibility from Mitsubishi Motors Corporation in 2002. This includes the popular Mitsubishi Canter range.

Mitsubishi's medium-sized Canter trucks are a reflection of their long-standing relationship with South Africa some 21 000 Mitsubishi Canter trucks have been sold in this country.

The two model range of 3- and 4-tonne workhorses, which are powered by 3,5 and 3,9-litre diesel and turbo diesel engines feature high interior specification levels keeping with Mitsubishi's "Full Comfort" concept.

The current 3-tonne diesel models underline the company 5 role as a significant player in the highly competitive medium-sized commercial vehicle market.

The new-generation 3,9-litre engines are a part of Mitsubishi's drive towards smaller trucks with high power outputs and cleaner engines. Larger engine capacities make a significant improvement to ride comfort and fuel efficiency while providing enhanced smoothness. The five-speed manual gearbox, which boasts a one-piece cylindrical transmission case and non-backlash mechanism to reduce idling noise and vibration, plays a further part in producing extremely high comfort levels for this vehicle.
