Positive Progress
The way to go!
Germany
In Germany, Mercedes-Benz Commercial vehicles are planning to spend an annual EUR1bn investment on safety technology research and development. Dr Eckhard Cordes, head of DaimlerChrysler`s Commercial Vehicle Business Unit, said in a policy statement that his vision is the "accident-free driving of commercial vehicles".
For this reason DaimlerChrysler has introduced a number of safety assistance systems that are currently in series production. The Dynamic Handling Control and Brake Assist are now available in Mercedes-Benz and Sentra Coaches.
While the Dynamic Handling Control helps reduce the risk of skidding when cornering, the Brake Assist reduce the emergency stopping distance at 100 kp/h by an approximate ten meters.
Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks have also been equipped with two active safety systems- the Lane Assist and the Telligent Proximity Control. The Lane Assist warns the driver through radio speakers if there are signs of the vehicle veering from its lane and the Telligent Proximity Control maintains a safe following distance.
South Africa
In South Africa, Mercedes-Benz' performance continues to dominate all segments of the market, and every effort will be made to provide excellent service to customers. Brand focus and alignment of brand representation will be one of the driving forces to ensure proactive communication with customers. While some dealerships will change ownership, most will be remodelled or have new facilities built.
Parts
To support and build on infrastructure already in place at dealerships, the DCSA Parts Division has introduced their "team" element into its Dealership Focus Plan. The process of communication was defined in order that:
-
parts issues affecting the service department are highlighted and clearly identified
-
expediting action is in place and full information is available to customers
-
dealer parts stocking are constantly reviewed in line with the service support objective.
A significant improvement in service levels has been recorded and constantly maintained. In addition, a tremendous amount of time and resources are being focussed on preparing the dealer stocking points and increasing the service level to the customer.
Service
An Integrated Service Division is set to position DCSA as a leader in customer satisfaction. It will offer a support function that will empower their dealers to evolve into a "front office" operating function. The installation of the state-of-the-art Dealer Technical Assistance Centre will render technical solutions to the dealers on time, enabling the workshop technicians to phone in their difficult technical problems to DTAC whilst they are busy with the repair unit.
Driver Training
The Economic and Defensive Driving programme offered by the Driver Training Academy has helped drivers cut fuel consumption costs as well as enhancing their driver skills and responsibilities. These programmes are designed to assist delegates to gain the necessary knowledge that will enhance practical application of the vehicle. This means that Fleet owners will have the most economically efficient vehicles, driven by professional drivers.
Product
The extensive Mercedes-Benz product range (from the Vito to the mighty Actros) offer customers a selection of vehicles to meet their individual needs, and a comprehensive national dealer network makes Mercedes-Benz a market leader that customers are proud to be associated with and also their ultimate choice.
