2002 saw the highly successful introduction of the new Volvo FH & FM truck range into Southern Africa, the delivery of 200 buses to Johannesburg metropolitan transport operator, Metrobus and a clear focus on continued commitment and growth in the local market by the local Volvo operation.
"The Southern African markets are very important to Volvo," says Christian Capelle, Managing Director of Volvo (Southern Africa) (Pty) Ltd.
"As customer satisfaction is a top priority, we have grown our presence significantly and improved our service and aftermarket network throughout the region. In addition to the branches in main centres, approved service agents are now operating in Polokwane (Pietersburg), George, Harrismith and Empangeni. We have advanced rapidly into Africa and have appointed Volvo dealers in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, The Democratic Republic of Congo and Namibia, " he added.
Volvo has delivered on a variety of projects promised during 2002. One such project is the in-house pre-owned truck and bus division that is now up and running in Bartlett, Boksburg. Warranties are available on semi-new units to enhance the value of the pre-owned units and extend their productive operational life.

On-going driver training is available to our customers to assist in maintaining competency levels of the driver workforce.
The assembly plant in Botswana will be certified ISO 9000 compliant by January 2003.
Our new state-of the art Head Office workshop, training centre and overnight facility is near completion in Jet Park, Johannesburg and will be opening early this year. We have embarked on a new facility project in Cape Town to be ready by mid 2003.

Whilst concentrating on the successful supply of Volvo trucks into long haul truck market segment, Volvo trucks can now offer a broader base of speciality units suitable for the service, construction and waste industries.
