AXLES, SUSPENSIONS
& COMPONENTS

FRUEHAUF COMPONENTS is the only supplier in the transport industry able to offer you extensive country-wide support.

Our manufacturing company is situated in Wadeville - Gauteng, in addition to which we have 8 repair and service centres together with 23 parts outlets that can supply you with all required axle, suspension and other trailer components.

Suspensions

Various suspension types, variants and formats are available to cater for all axle type requirements and riding heights. Spring suspensions are available with a choice of imported Weweler 1, 2 and 3 blade parabolic spring packs, and the locally manufactured 7, 8, 9 and 10 blade multi-spring packs with ratings up to 15 tons.

A variety of Weweler and Hendrickson air suspensions are available to suit a wide range of applications. Heavy duty robust walking beam suspensions are also available to meet the demands of the abnormal haulage sector of the market. All suspensions are well proven assemblies requiring the minimum maintenance

Trailer Axles

The Fruehauf axle was originally designed by Fruehauf USA and introduced into South Africa in 1976. This axle became the industry standard and with a few minor improvements, remains as the market leader.

Track lengths of 1910, 2040 and 2200 are standard. Special track lengths are available on request in all axle beams. Camshaft length dimension of 840mm from centreline of track will reduce to 765mm for track lengths between 1760 and 1900.

FEATURES

  • Large shoulder radius on journal at inner bearing to reduce stress at this critical point

  • Four equal size high capacity bearings provide long life (applicable to 11000 journal only).

  • A simple efficient castellated axle nut and hardened washer provide easy end play adjustment on bearings in increments of .13mm. A split pin ensures a positive lock.

  • 100 Tooth ABS pole wheel

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

  • Oil filled hubs
  • Spigot mounted wheel hub
  • Spring chairs fitted to axles
  • Low maintenance, long life cartridge bearing hubs
  • Unbraked axles
  • Personalised hub caps
  • Disc brakes

Outboard mounted brake drum provides quick access to foundation brake without removal of the hub, thus avoiding ingress of dirt into hub bearings.

Hubs are machined on sophisticated single set-up CNC machine to ensure perfect concentricity. Spigot length sufficient to accommodate dual aluminium wheels.

Disc brakes (optional). Uses same hub bearings, seals hub cap etc. as standard 1100 journal. The 420 brake features XEM (Extra Easy Maintenance), quick fit brake shoes and bolt on brake spider.

A variety of one piece axle beams, round or square, including the lightweight 127 square tubular axle beam.

Large diameter camshafts reduce wind up under brake torque. 37 Tooth shallow serrations on camshaft end provide extra strength.

Haldex SABA automatic slack adjuster as standard equipment.
