RENAULT TRUCKS has
experience in trucking that goes back more than a century. Today it
is a major player in the heavy commercial vehicle industry. Since
2001 Renault Trucks is part of the AB Volvo Group, the largest truck
manufacturer in Europe and the second largest in North America and
worldwide. The AB Volvo Group owns three truck brands, i.e. Volvo,
Mack and Renault, which account for approximately 70% of the Groups
business, the balance made up of construction equipment, marine
engines and financial services. Renault Trucks is a genuine
multi-specialist offering a complete range of products and services
catering for requirements of all aspects of road haulage. The
company is well represented internationally, in Europe via a network
of 1 350 dealers and also via its subsidiaries and importers around
the world. Annual sales are approximately 62 000 units and the
International Department which exports vehicles to various countries
in the world has shown significant growth to more than 7700 units.
As part of its strategy to grow this sector, South Africa has been
identified as a priority along with other regions.
The Imperial Group
hardly needs introduction in South Africa and therefore the coming
together of these two companies provides an exiting opportunity for
Renault Trucks to become a serious contender in the local market.
Imperial has set up Commercial Vehicle Holdings (CVH), which will be
the holding company for Renault Trucks and the other truck
franchises in the Group.
The substantial value
that Imperial can add to a leading product like Renault Trucks via
its world class infrastructure of Mega Truck Centres, Branches and
wide range of services, will ensure that Renault Trucks will now
take its rightful place in the South African market. Local assembly,
which further reduces cost to the end user, is planned for mid 2005
in the Apex facility of Tyco.
There is a
determination to make Renault Trucks another success story from
Imperial and the structures are in place to achieve and exceed the
ambitious targets set for 2005. A representative office has been set
up in the Mid Rand Offices of Renault Trucks South Africa by Renault
Trucks in France. This will ensure that the substantial resources of
Renault Trucks are utilised optimally to support the efforts to
provide South African customers with effective transport solutions.
Mr. Pieter Fourie CEO of CVH and his team are excited and ready to
exploit the opportunity that the very strong market presents to
establish the Renault Trucks range as a top quality product
supported by the unrivaled service levels which has become the trade
mark of the Group.
The Renault Trucks
range will consist of Kerax, Premium and Midlum in various
configurations to cover a wide variety of applications. Plans are
under way to introduce the Mascott in the MCV segment during the
second half of 2005.
