"WESTERN STAR has exceeded all expectations during 2004 and we foresee phenomenal growth for this product in the mining, road train and off highway applications," said Johan Cloete, Freightliner divisional manager at DaimlerChrysler South Africa.

The Canadian built Western Star truck was originally launched with two models with a 30 and 40 tonne payload respectively.

The Western Star range is beginning to make serious inroads into the mining industry and is proving to be extremely popular with the operators using the truck. One of its best features is speed, which means the truck is capable of moving more in a shorter space of time, compared to its competitors..

This year we brought a few Western Star road trains to South Africa and they are proving to be highly successful, moving some 150 tonnes at a time. These trucks operate on private roads, so they will not be seen on our public roads.
