International continues to enjoy success

A feature of the heavy duty truck market in 2006 was the ongoing success story of International Trucks South Africa (ITSA) with record sales of the International 9800 and 7000 Series trucks in their various truck tractor and rigid derivitives

While sales figures for the year 2006 were buoyant Internationals’ Bob Jones is confident that the International Brand will remain the best selling American Truck in the South African truck market.

The Auto Africa 2006 Expo provided the platform for the company, to introduce the forthcoming "New Improved cab interior" for the 9000 series range of trucks which is due for release in the second quarter of 2007.

The directive to the International engineers was clear, "vastly improved driver comfort with increased productivity.

There is increased leg room and a host of new features such as a rest pad for the left foot when not operating the clutch, as well as much easier access to the sleeper compartment. The seat is an ergonomic delight with fully adjustable air suspension, complete with integral seatbelts.

The instrumentation layout has also been re-designed with a separate rev counter and speedometer with ivory coloured gauge faces for easier reading in all light conditions.

Other features are a new overhead console for radio/CD tachograph and road relay and a vastly improved air conditioning system, while the sleeper compartment has also undergone a makeover and features a full width sleeper bunk or the option of the Midroof sleeper with second bunk.

Says Jones: "The new enhancements put the 9000 series cab interior in the premier league, an important factor for retaining quality drivers and ensuring optimum productivity" The increasingly popular 7000 Series range of conventional trucks includes a 7400 6x4 chassis with an Allison Automatic transmission as standard and heavy duty rear suspension and axles which are ideally suitable for operation in the Construction and Waste industries.

In addition the 7000 series range also features 7600 6x4 truck tractor’s and rigid chassis, powered by a Cummins ISM 400 engine with an Eaton Fuller Autoshift or manual transmission, available with a standard day cab or extended sleeper cab.

Going forward, the 9800 and 7000 series which both feature the well proven, and respected, North American heavy duty driveline will continue to be our core ranges, sales have exceeded expectations as operators come to understand the advantages offered in a variety of applications.
