EASY TALK

FleetWatch has a colourful history of interaction with our readers and advertisers. As part of our on-going attempts to add value to this interaction, we are now open to all communication modes to make it easier for you to communicate with us.

Should you wish to comment on any issue raised in FleetWatch - or that is going on in the industry - you can do so via phone on (011) 794-2490, fax on (011) 794-1474 or e-mail us on fleetwatch@pixie.co.za.

You can also respond directly from our web-site at www.fleetwatch.co.za. Under each submitted letter in our Letters to the Editor page, for example, is an underlined Your Comment. If you feel peeved off or thrilled by something, don't keep it to yourself. Share it. Remember the Sun City advertisement which urged you to get there by car, train, bus or plane. Well, now you can get to FleetWatch - and through us to the market - by phone, fax, e-mail or the web. Just get here.

Thank you but…..

BRAVO AND thank you very much for the excellent exposure we got in FleetWatch (Trakking off-road in Spain, July 2008 edition). On the other hand, let me say that I am somewhat disappointed by the graph presented on page 27, which implies that we are a dwarf in the market.

I point out to the author of the article, Dave Scott, that I have been MD now for two years and to be fair to my team, you should read what is printed in your own magazine almost every month about our progress. Take as an example, the same issue on pages 76, 77 and 78:

  • “IVECO has grown at above the industry average”,

  • “IVECO which has shown general improvement in the past year is now in seventh position”,

  • “IVECO performed well this year”

  • “Strong showing by IVECO should also be noted”

Arguably, we are coming from a low base but since 2006, we are climbing the charts, including in the extra heavy segment:

2003 = 138 units
2004 = 167 units
2005 = 169 units
2006 = 270 units
2007 = 359 units
2008 = 277 (for 7 months)
2008 = 565 (projected, but all units already pre-sold for the next 5 months);
Projected 2009 = 750
Projected 2010 = 1000

Globally speaking, in the Middle East and Africa, sales of the Trakker should reach 10 000 units this year. In any case, thank you again for being part of the Madrid experience.

Reversing – perchance?

I refer to your article titled Lessons from a near Miss in your June edition about the car carrier and wish to make the following comment. It appears from the lack of disturbance to the vegetation and the lack of tyre marks or squashed grass behind the rear trailer, that the car carrier might have been reversing up the exit ramp when it went off the road and nearly overturned?

Editor’s Comment:

Editor's Comment: Thanks, ‘Sherlock’, for taking the trouble to put that observation forward to our readers. Either way - forward or reverse – the driver should not have got into that situation hey.
