Special Report –

Used and Rental Trucks

Keeping you in the game ...

Used and Rental Trucks – With banks tightening their lending criteria, transporters wanting to buy vehicles either have to plough deeply into their cash reserves or make do with what they have. Relief is sorely needed and perhaps used and rental trucks are the solution to the credit crunch right now. Paul Collings investigates.

Road hazards recalled ...

MEC Firoz Cachalia has stated that the Gauteng Department of Community Safety plans to recall 45 000 unlicensed vehicles before the end of March 2010. Richard Macaskill reports.

Harrismith harassed ...

Harrismith, once the jewel of the Free State, has long-suffered a nocturnal infestation. Hundreds of trucks park illegally in the town every night and the damage to the roads and infrastructure has now reached such a level that trucks are in danger of being totally banned from Harrismith. Richard Macaskill investigates.

One truck turnaround ...

Could one truck have minimised the effects of the fires that ravaged the Western Cape? The Mercedes- Benz Unimog - a go anywhere, do anything truck - is back in South Africa having been launched at last year’s Johannesburg International Motor Show.

Smoky and the bandit – take two...

“The Metro Police have set up a roadblock and are pulling all the trucks off the road in Beyers Naude Drive. Do you know what’s going on?” It turned out that the cops were checking the emission levels of trucks – a most welcomed activity.

Turning hope into reality...

In these times when companies are cutting marketing budgets, it is heartening to see that the trucking industry is still investing in the future skills needs of the industry. Andrew Parker reports.

Trucking from the heart ...

A local woman foregoes her 50th birthday celebration – instead joining hands with Isuzu Trucks South Africa to send a truckload of food to a starving village in Zimbabwe. Andrew Parker reports.

Kindness Grows Kindness...

IT WAS ENVISAGED that this addendum to the story would be titled ‘Journey’s End’ but like most endings, it was just another beginning.
