Ensuring the
'lifeblood'
keeps flowing

In celebration of World Health Day, Engen Petroleum Ltd has released a comprehensive driver health booklet containing all the topics that have been addressed in partnership with FleetWatch during the past two year’s Learn about your Health promotional campaign.

Circulated with this edition of the magazine, this sixteen page booklet illustrates and explains the basic facts regarding specific health issues that affect our truck driving community.

From the effects of Alcohol and Drugs to the extra care required when Winter Driving, the Engen A-Z of Driver Health provides a wealth of valuable information in a simple and effective way.

Drivers are encouraged to recognise the importance of their health by the inclusion of a National Health Observance Calendar reflecting important national and world Health Days such as Stroke Awareness Week, World Sight Day and Condom and STi week. Also included is a list of contact numbers for national help centres and support groups for each condition so as to point drivers in the right direction should they require further professional assistance.

Through efforts like these, Engen does more that just live up to its "With us you are Number One" promise. They provide the means and the inspiration for others to follow by their example - to give driver health the attention it deserves.

With the courtesy of Engen and FleetWatch, companies like Haulcon, Richardsbay Minerals and Anglo American make use of the monthly materials produced for the Learn about your Health campaign by including the artwork in their monthly in-house magazines and newsletters. SABC 2 recently approached FleetWatch for assistance with a series of television programmes focussing on Driver Fatigue, Diabetes and Hypertension - keep an eye out as the background graphics and information used comes straight out of this Engen booklet!

In an ongoing effort to make this information available to all drivers visiting Engen sites, Community Notice Boards are being erected at 12 Engen Truck Stops nationwide. These notice boards will display a varied selection of health information each month and also act as a communication board whereby drivers could chat to each other at no cost. Drivers simply ask the dealer to post their note on the board.

FleetWatch commends Engen on its firm commitment towards improving the health of our country’s drivers. We applaud the relentless effort to make a positive difference because without our greatest asset – fit and healthy drivers – our industry would no longer be able to boast about being the lifeblood of our country’s economy.
