Behind every truck
operating on our roads is a paper trail that stretches from the brochure
which helped sell it, to the registration certificate housed in its owner’s
filing cabinet. This trail is segmented according to the ‘phase’ in
the ‘path to ownership’. It is a complex process involving sales,
financing and insurance disciplines. Historically, these functions have
been handled by autonomous organisations, namely truck dealers, banks and
insurance companies. Today however, a new breed of truck deal has emerged,
where the dealer offers all three services in one basket – the truck,
its financing and its insurance all under the OEM banner. In this report, Paul
