Sammy goes the distance!

When Samson Sikhweni started as a driver with Spartan Truck Hire in 1987, the company owned only one horse and trailer and approximately 14 trucks. So dedicated was Sammy to his duties, that when he drove down to Cape Town, he would organize his own return loads to ensure that he did not bring back an empty truck!

As Spartan’s first long distance driver appointed in 1987, he today boasts the title of Top Senior Driver!

"The road is my home", says Sikhweni. "I don’t feel right when I am in the yard, I need to be out there, eating up the miles to different places! It is a lonely and stressful job, especially when you end up in a foreign country for the first time and you don’t speak or understand the language!" This is obviously not a stumbling block for Samson, who sees the best part of his job as meeting new and interesting people and discovering new territories.

So when you pass a Spartan Truck Hire rig with the name "SAMMY" on the horse, hoot and wave – he is a precious asset and rare breed!
