debis Fleet Management (dFM) has gone real-time with the introduction of a new addition to its product range called debis Direct, a mobility solution software programme designed and customized for its clients by debis Fleet
Management.
debis Direct is an add-on to the current vehicle tracking and monitoring system offered by dFM but places the power of control with fleet managers instead of just with operators at a call centre. With the use of a PC or laptop with internet connection, the fleet manager can log on to the programme and independently monitor the movement of the fleet vehicles.
The new programme allows fleet owners, transport and fleet managers to monitor and keep track of their entire fleet of vehicles regardless of where they are. With the assistance of debis Direct, a fleet owner will receive a monthly report that will clearly outline various elements such as routes driven by drivers, excessive idling, misuse of vehicles and petrol wastage. With this information, managers will be able to take immediate steps to rectify any untoward situation.
Dan Moeletsi, CEO of dFM says: "In this industry, time is money. We found that that there is a growing need for immediate access to real time tracking information of fleet vehicles. If a fleet owner receives an enquiry from his client regarding the expected time of delivery of freight, the fleet owner can check the tracking programme using debis Direct and provide immediate feedback to his client."
After intensive research and consultation with clients, dFM developed a product that was piloted on the fleet of trucks owned by SAB. "All reports have been extremely positive and we are now in a position to make debis Direct available to all our customers," says Moeletsi.
With relevant programming of a system, a variety of reports can be created. If 'no-go areas' have, for example, been input into a programme for a group of sales reps, the fleet owner can receive immediate notification the moment any vehicle enters that particular "no-go" area. "Our maps are so detailed you could even tell if a driver illegally drove down a one-way road," says Moeletsi.
dFM is a 65% owned subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler Financial Services in partnership with Kagiso Trust, which has a 35% shareholding in the company. dFM currently manages 150 000 vehicles and claims to run the largest single outsourced fleet in the southern hemisphere. Current clients include SAB, Telkom, SABC, Vodacom, Canon and Tshwane Municipality.
