Aside from its regular columns and articles on all subjects relating to the transport industry,
FleetWatch also supports a host of initiatives attached to the trucking industry that address more universal issues, human stories that call for community action to help make South Africa a better place.
After interviewing MAN Truck and Bus's Ian Carmichael, FleetWatch was informed of the inspiring story of a young man working in the transport industry who is a world-class Braille chess player.
"Cicel Vosloo always wanted to be a farmer but was blinded fighting a fire on the adjoining farm to his home," says Carmichael. "He is employed by Truck Africa as a radio controller, with an excellent track record in vehicle retention to and from countries north of our borders."
Refusing to let his loss of eyesight get him down, he learned how to play chess and has been nominated to represent South Africa at the International Braille Chess Olympiad in Crete, Greece, in October 2008.
Imagine the feeling, knowing you are only R25 000 away from a crack at becoming a world champ! That's how Cicel Vosloo is feeling right now...and he needs your help!
This appeal is for your assistance to enable Cicel to fulfil this once in a lifetime opportunity. Every R100 helps and the donation process couldn't be easier. He has a website where you can donate money towards his campaign:
Have your credit card details available, go to www.backabuddy.co.za/cicel
and the BackaBuddy's website will take you through a simple process. Be assured the site is safely protected.
According to Carmichael, your donation will be deposited into the SA Braille Chess Association's bank account and you will receive acknowledgement of the transaction.
C'mon! Let's make it happen. Cicel is already a hero in the trucking industry. Let's now help make him a World Champ!
