How sharp are your taillights? Do they always shine when needed to? What about when the truck battery dies? A new product has hit the market that will ensure your vehicle’s rear end is visible at night, despite an electrical failure in the truck. It’s Called Nitetailite, a locally developed, self-powered taillight unit for trucks. According to product developer Joe Maritz, "The unit is easily installed in the enclosure where the truck’s existing taillights are housed. The unit consists of a battery and a charging control circuit. The battery gets charged when brakes are applied and when the taillights are switched on. Should any disruption in the voltage supply to the taillights occur, the Nitetailight takes over for at least 12 hours." The unit is designed to work in conjunction with LED-type taillights only, says Maritz. "No matter the disruption in voltage, the Nitetaillight keeps working, even if the trailer is disconnected. The unit not only helps prevent accidents but also reduces the chance of traffic fines." Maritz says the units cost R250 each, but adds that he is currently looking for a backer to finance the manufacturing of the units. Any venture capitalists out there?
