THE MANAGEMENT OF the N3TC has issued a plea through FleetWatch urging companies to focus in their driver training modules on the issue of drivers doing U-turns on the roads. And the plea is for good reason. Yet another person has died and two have been seriously injured as a result of a truck smashing into another truck which was doing a U-turn on the highway just past Harrismith on the N3. “It is simply unacceptable that an innocent person should lose his life and two others be critically injured because some wayward driver – who walks away unscathed - decides to do an illegal U-turn. I am becoming speechless with rage that this kind of thing continuously happens,” says Con Roux, commercial manager of the N3TC. The picture accompanying this article is of the Toyota Hino which smashed into the turning truck. It needn’t have happened and we urge all operators to ensure such an incident doesn’t happen again. It’s such a senseless waste of life! |
