THE DEFINITIVE TRUCKING SITE

Just when you thought you’d got a handle on the meaning and workings of ABS and EBS, the world’s leading brake system developers come to the party with a host of new technologies (and acronyms) to help stop the truck.

WABCO IS no exception. Here are some of the options and add-on features on offer with all its standard brake systems:

  • RSS: Since 2004, the Wabco EBS trailer systems maintain driving stability using RSS (Roll Stability System). Any deviation in lateral stability from what is theoretically acceptable will cause the RSS to become active and prevent the vehicle from a rollover.

  • IVTM: (Integrated Vehicle Tyre Monitoring) can be fitted to all trucks and trailers. This system will monitor tyre pressure on complete truck trailer rigs. Before a slow leak has caused the pressure to drop to a point where the tyre and rims can be damaged, the driver is warned via a dashboard display. Advantages are increased tyre life, stability and safety, improved fuel efficiency and reduced down time.

  • Smartboard: An electronic trailer management system fitted to the side of the trailer to assist with diagnostics and system information download. Smartboard generates tyre information, trailer brake system diagnostics and reporting while also controlling the trailer’s raise/ lower docking/coupling system.

  • ECAS (Electronically Controlled Air Suspension): Enables more efficient control of axle lifts, levelling control and suspension docking systems.

  • TCE (Trailer Central Electronics): Features a park distance control system for preventing drivers from reversing into obstacles. This has found particular use in the fuel tanker industry and aids drivers in close area manoeuvring such as in fuel station forecourts..
