A victim of bad fuel . . .
Because of contaminated diesel, what should have been a pleasant experience with a unique truck ended up as an expensive nightmare and an experience not to be forgotten. There are lessons here.

East meets West . . .
This year, at the Auto Africa Truck and Bus Expo, a host of new brands vied for attention against the stalwarts of the trucking world.
FleetWatch deputy editor Paul Collings put on his walking shoes to check what’s afoot in SA’s new era of trucking.

Top Products . . .
For those readers around the country who didn’t make it to Auto Africa, FleetWatch brings you a range of the products which were on show.

A FleetWatch Special Report –
Fleet Management Systems

The Revolution is Coming . . .
Fleet Management systems are now being marketed by truck OEMs who are integrating their factory-fitted electronic vehicle management systems with Fleet Management and Telematics systems. This represents a watershed in the commercial fleet management arena writes Paul Collings

Definitely Maybe . . .
Fleet Management/Telematics Systems marketed under the banner of truck OEMs have arrived. Paul Collings asks three of South Africa’s FM system developers for their comments on what could be construed as a serious threat to their market share.

SA's FM Vanguard. . .
The lead article in this special report discusses the selling of FM (Fleet Management) and Telematics solutions by European truck OEMs.

The Tacho rocks on . . .
Despite its somewhat ‘antiquated’ technology, the tachograph continues to provide fleet managers with valuable information regarding trucks and their drivers. Paul Collings finds out why.

Volvo steers clear. . .
Not all the European OEMs are ready to pounce on our buoyant local Fleet Management market with brand-specific Telematics systems.

R2-million payback for transporters. . .
It is extremely gratifying to be able to give something back to those transporters who reduced their claim ratios

Who’s Who . . .
A useful listing of Who’s Who in the fleet management and vehicle tracking arena.

Matrix turns 10 . . .
Matrix Vehicle Tracking celebrates its 10th anniversary with a function that gives true meaning to its slogan that ‘Our customers are people not vehicles’.

Burning Profits . . .
For those operators still not convinced of the folly of having their trucks park illegally alongside highways, this story provides ample evidence.

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS. . .
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's) are caused by germs that are passed on from one person to another during sex. These infections are very common, with over 4 million people receiving treatment for STI's in South Africa every year.

HIV/AIDS
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) destroys a person's immune system, making it impossible for the body to fight off disease or illnesses.
AIDS is the last phase of a deadly disease caused by HIV.

INDUSTRY OBSERVATION

Driver incentives can be fatal. . .

I recently came across a driver salary structure of a well-known car carrier subcontractor. In it, a ‘bonus’ incentive exists, specifically; R1500 extra if the driver exceeds 30,000kms a month! Yes 30,000kms. No kidding!

New compulsory stop at Van Reenens. . .
The N3TC is currently engaged in three important road-safety enhancements around the Van Reenens Pass area - and FleetWatch urges all operators using the route to inform their drivers of these developments.
