Trucking the information highway...

While internet shopping is widely accepted, there is still some hesitation when it comes to purchasing a truck or a trailer on line. Andrew Parker learns how a South African company tied up with a manufacturer in China, resulting in the signing of two orders for seriously heavy-duty trailers.

An idiotic notion...

Following on from last month’s story titled Outrage at DoT Proposal around the reduction of the single rear axle mass load from 9 000 kg to 8 000 kg on all secondary roads, FleetWatch correspondent, Max Braun, who has over 50 years experience in the industry, gives his thoughts on the issue. He, like many in the industry, is angry.

Celebrating integration...
It was a happy event at MAN Truck & Bus Africa’s Pinetown assembly plant when local and international management got together with staff to celebrate the successful integration of the assembly of VW truck and bus units into the MAN Pinetown assembly plant operation.

Showcasing your business...

The 2010 FIFA World Cup will present an ideal opportunity to show the world just how professional we as an industry can be and how proud we are to own and operate the best looking and best maintained truck fleets across the length and breadth of Africa. But there is work to do to achieve that status writes Andrew Parker.

A Good First Impression...
East and West came together at Gerotek to launch a new truck onto the South African market. Called the Kinland DFL 420, it arrived under an agreement between DFM Warrior Trucks and China’s Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company. Patrick O'Leary was there.

Managing time at Time Freight...

In the trucking business, time is money. FleetWatch correspondent Dave Scott visits Time Freight to get a handle on the disciplines in place to enable the company to live up to its name.

Brake & Tyre Watch

The FleetWatch Brake & Tyre Watch team recently visited Pietermaritzburg where we were surprised to find that the Zero Tolerance policy has some flaws when it comes to the roadworthiness of trucks and buses. Patrick O’Leary tells the story in words and photographs.

Cape forklift operators are best...

The recent 2009 Ciltsa National Forklift Truck Driver of the Year competition was a great success but, as Andrew Parker finds out after talking to some of the organisers, there is still much to be done in the industry in terms of training. Pretty much the same as trucking we’d say.
