Tributes to the Yorkshire Terrier. . .

Ever since the announcement of his passing on 3 October 2007, tributes have been pouring in for the man affectionately known to all as ‘Uncle Jack’ - a friend, a mentor, a colleague, a giant, a legend, a Statesman. All that, plus more, is what Jack Webster was.

FleetWatch congratulates John Ackerman on 20 successful years of SARDA and "The Cold Link" and for the valuable role they play in striving to assist transporters to improve the cold chain, food safety and traceability. We look forward to many more years of inspiration and innovative thinking from John and his team.

Who Killed Rudi?. . .

Forget JFK, 9-11, Hansie, Marilyn etc. We know what kills a diesel engine but who killed its inventor?

Tracking the Spirit of Trucking. . .

Paul Collings joined Freightliner/Fuso and a gang of its top clients at this year’s Spirit of Africa 4x4 Trophy in search of trucking’s spirit.

All the right stuff. . .

Scania South Africa recently held the official launch if its 2007 Driver of the Year competition with truly admirable objectives embracing all the right stuff writes Patrick O’Leary

Special Report

Refrigerated Transport

Hot stings in the cold tail. . .

Scratch beneath the surface of the seemingly lucrative refrigerated transport sector and you will find a definite sting in the tail with many problems that need tackling, writes FleetWatch correspondent Max Braun

Equipment trends see changes. . .

Constantly changing market demands ensure that there’s nothing static in the refrigerated transport equipment arena, reports Max Braun

Food Safety & Traceability. . .

At the time of writing, the DOA (Department of Agriculture) and/or the PPECB (Perishable Products Export Control Board) had not yet finalised the requirements for the certification of refrigerated vehicles, says Max Braun

Industry role model. . .

The Woolworths – Fast ‘n Fresh (FnF) partnership is undoubtedly the role model for anyone interested in forming and developing a successful business partnership built on shared values and vision.

Keeping it Cool. . .

Without the correct coolant and antifreeze chemicals in the truck’s cooling system, premature cooling system failure could result in costly engine seizure say Cummins Filtration’s technical experts.

Injecting Diesel Skills. . .

The critical skills shortage plaguing the truck transport industry has been given a healthy ‘shot in the arm’ by Parts Incorporated Africa (PIA), a division of Midas Group, in the form of a Technical Support Centre, specialising in training technicians how to service the latest diesel fuel injection systems.

Operational requirements for road vehicles – Part 2. . .

In last month’s edition, Hentie van Jaarsveldt, FleetWatch’s correspondent on Dangerous Goods, dealt with the responsibilities of the Consignor and the Operator in terms of the Operational Requirements for Road Vehicles contained in SANS 10231-2006. In this article – Part 2 of the Series – he takes a look at the responsibilities of the driver and the consignee which are considerable and can carry serious consequences in the event of non-compliance.
