MOEGOE OF THE MONTH

THE WINNER of this month’s submission of the ‘Moegoe of the Month’ photograph is Bertie Byker, Pr.Eng.; Head: Operations Integration, Roads & Stormwater for the City of Cape Town. Here, in his words, is the description of the photograph he submitted and the reasons why he thought this ‘invisible’ truck to be a worthy winner.

“I snapped this ‘mobile smoke generator’ on Table Bay Boulevard in Cape Town. So much smoke that the vehicle causing it was invisible!”

FleetWatch has decided to award this ‘moegoe’ trucker with this esteemed title as, although one can’t see the vehicle so we’ll never know who it is, this ‘moegoe’ represents the many trucks on our roads which go about their daily tasks while belching smoke into our fragile atmosphere. Not only is this a clear sign that maintenance procedures are lacking in those companies, but it also shows a clear disregard
from those companies of all the warnings that have been issued on the dire threat to the survival of our planet through global warming. What this trucker is saying is: “I don’t care about anything bigger than myself”. For this attitude, he gets the Moegoe of the Month award while Bertie Byker wins a bottle of FleetWatch’s finest ‘Château Collapso’ which will be delivered to him shortly.

Remember that what we are looking for are photographs of trucks spotted on the roads by our readers that would qualify for this ‘esteemed’ award. We’re looking for photographs of trucks which ‘admirably’ show us what should NOT be done in terms of safe and professional operations.

Look carefully and somewhere inside all that smoke you’ll see a moegoe.

Footnote: An unbelievable development has come out of last month’s Moegoe of the Month award. That same truck that got the award was involved in an accident which wiped out an Actros and nearly killed the driver. See Editor’s Comment in this edition.
