A Duncanmec all-aluminium
tri-axle semi end tipper – the sign says it all. |
The fact that the tipper industry is experiencing unprecedented growth is now common knowledge and ongoing infrastructural development looks set to keep this boom on the upswing for a good few years to come. Meeting the demands of tipper transporters who want to optimise payload while remaining 'load-legal' is the primary challenge of tipper trailer builders right now and one of the front runners in this regard is Duncanmec, a company committed to delivering the best in payload solutions.
As South Africa's key licensee for STAS, one of Europe's largest aluminium walking floor and tipper manufacturers, "we are able to offer the market one of the lightest trailers ever to travel on the South African roads," says Duncanmec's Cornel Dunn.
"The semi trailer tipper body and chassis are manufactured from aluminium, which allows for maximum payload. As standard, these semi tipper trailers are fitted with air suspension, EBS brakes and double hinge rear doors," Dunn explains. "The semi trailer tipper can be used for a variety of free flowing aggregate materials and is available in 24- 38m³ volumes."

Breaking the barrier
"Just as athletes strive to achieve the ultimate by running a 'golden mile', we strive to break the barrier where weight and strength meet in building the ultimate light weight product," adds Dunn. "We understand that payload pays the bills. The more legal payload a transporter moves the more efficient his operation becomes. Cutting out the dead weight and increasing the payload is our objective. By manufacturing a strong and durable but light weight trailer we have managed to do just that."
The cost of fuel plays an important role in any transporters operation and the efficient management of this will inevitably lead to a more profitable business. "By reducing the dead weight of the total rig, fuel cost can be kept at the minimum level," says Dunn. "Our aluminium semi tipper trailer contributes to this cost saving by weighing in at a tare mass of between 5000 kg - 6000 kg, depending on individual customer requirements."
Rising demand
One sure sign of boom time in an industry is when capital is spent on expansion of production facilities and Duncanmec has done just this. "The demand for our light weight trailers has prompted us to build a 2000m² factory adjacent to our current facility," says Dunn. "This factory is nearing completion and will be dedicated to the manufacture of aluminium trailers, including dry bulk Spitzer tanks, semi tippers and aluminium walking floors."
What with enhanced legislation and overload control by traffic authorities, low-tare mass commercial vehicles will assist operators in running more profitable, legal loads. Apart from helping to avoid hefty weighbridge punishment, lightweight but strong aluminium trailers help save fuel, "and less fuel burned by the truck means less harm done to the environment," concludes Dunn.
