Allow for
construction delays
 |
|
Road construction is a pain to truckers but is essentially in ensuring we have a world class road network. |
Although all truckers hate delays caused by road construction works, the point is that such work is crucial to maintaining a world class road transport network. In this regard, the N3 toll route is no different especially as it is South Africas premier economic and leisure route.
N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) is currently undertaking a number of essential roadwork projects and although good news for holiday-makers as all
work is planned for completion ahead of the December peak holiday period, trucks will have to bear the brunt of the delays during the construction phase.
FleetWatch therefore notifies truckers that the following construction activities will be taking place between September
and December:
Cedara to Mgeni River work involving concrete repairs, which will mean slow lane closures between September 2007 and December 2007.
Mgeni River to Nottingham Road work involves milling and inlay of the slow and fast lanes, including road marking and the installation of road studs, which will mean respective slow and fast lane closures between September 2007 and November 2007.
Estcourt South Interchange to Frere Interchange (to Colenso/Winterton)
work along this section will be carried out on the concrete slabs, resulting in slow lane closures until December 2007.
Warden North Interchange to Vaal River extensive road works involving the reconstruction of the road base including asphalt inlays, patching and sealing, with slow lane closures until October 2007.
Vaal River to Dasville Interchange asphalt repairs and re-sealing of the northbound carriageway including respective slow and fast lane closures until December 2007; and
Dasville Interchange to North of De Hoek Plaza
asphalt repairs and resealing of the northbound carriageway, resulting in respective slow and fast lane closures until December 2007.
N3TC has appealed to truckers using the route to exercise patience and caution when travelling through the construction areas - and to comply with the indicated speed limit of 60km/h.
FleetWatchs advice to all transporters is to allow for some extra time when scheduling your trip times. Better to be prepared and relaxed rather than late and uptight. |
