SOUTH AFRICA has some worldbeating trailer designers and Trailord is one of them. FleetWatch asked the boys from KZN to update us on their latest innovations. “We’ve been working on our chassis-less designs for a number of new applications,” says Trailord’s Rob da Silva. “As the name implies, a chassis-less design means that there is no trailer chassis, which leads to increased volume and capacity as well as decreased weight. We already have three chassis-less designs, the Cube King, Grain Link and the Cattle King. All three are leaders in their respective markets.”
Trailord has also introduced the new Timber King range of timber trailers for the logging industry, available as a rigid drawbar combination or semi-trailer. “All come with specially designed lightweight bolsters and light but robust chassis. The aim here was to provide a quality and innovative product to the industry without compromising on strength,” says Da Silva.
Design technology is central to Trailord’s operation and in line with this, the company recently upgraded its already state of the art computer aided design software and hardware with new finite element analysis and stress analysis as well as 3D design software. “We even have a software development specialist in-house creating solutions and applications to improve our technological superiority. This is to ensure that we remain at the forefront of design and innovation in the industry allowing transporters – and ultimately the consumer – to benefit.” Asked what Trailord will present to the trucking public at the upcoming Johannesburg International Motor Show, da Silva says: “The hush is on as we get set to unveil a new design.” |
