If you think being a truck driver won’t get you far in life, think again. Unbeknown to most people is that some very famous people were, at some stage in their lives, truck drivers.

Sure it’s a well-known fact that truck driving is not for the faint-hearted. It’s a tough job involving long hours, often lonely where you spend a good deal of your time away from your home, family and friends. It takes a special breed of person to take up a career as a truck driver and make a real go of it. Some do it because they have no choice while others who have a love for trucks and the open road are simply drawn to it.

Though not notable for their truck driving abilities, below is a list of truck drivers who went on to become famous - or infamous.

  • Elvis Presley (singer).

  • Charles Bronson (actor).

  • Sean Connery (actor).

  • Chevy Chase (actor).

  • Liam Neeson (actor).

  • Richard Pryor (actor).

  • Rock Hudson (actor).

  • Chris Eubank (boxer)

  • Chris Tarrant (Host of the ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’ TV show renowned for the saying: “Is that your final answer?”).

  • Peter Sutcliffe (serial killer – the Yorkshire ripper)

What no ladies? Well there is one actually. Her name is Long Distance Clara. The juggernautdriving Clara was the star of the 1980s children's cartoon 'Pigeon Street'. According to Ezine magazine, there are those who see Long Distance Clara as an unsung feminist icon. Her marriage to chef Hugo demonstrated a refreshing reversal of gender stereotypes.

So next time you hear your driver singing while doing his work, don’t stop him in mid song. He might just go on to become another Elvis.
