 Market Truck Stop

The Johannesburg Market (formerly the Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market) plans to build an on-site truck stop at its City Deep, Johannesburg facilities to cater for the hundreds of truck drivers and their assistants who pass through the premises on a daily basis.

Spokesperson Thomas Mawasha says while the new facilities are still in the planning stage, it is envisaged they will include fully equipped ablution facilities as well as provide amenities for truckers to rest and even sleep over.

“Many of the drivers who visit the market to either pick up or deliver goods travel long distances and need a proper rest before they can undertake a return trip,” says Mawasha. “The management team decided that the provision of proper facilities for the drivers was not only humane but would also go a long way in making the Johannesburg market a world class facility.”

FleetWatch lifts its hats to the management of this facility for its far-sighted thinking. Way to go!
