Emergency Response Vehicle launched

Easigas - a division of Shell South Africa Marketing which Royal Dutch Shell owns jointly with BEE partner Thebe Investment Corporation - has put on the road an emergency response vehicle to deal with tanker accidents and roll overs.

According to Duane Dennis, Health Safety and Environment (HSE) division manager, the new vehicle is a response to the many calls Easigas and Allied Technical Services has had to assist with emergencies and to operate an emergency response vehicle.

The Easigas response vehicle is equipped with flood lights and has a 36 kVa generator power pack to facilitate the use of flame proof electrical appliances. The vehicle also has basic fire fighting capabilities and carries equipment to supplement emergency services.

Since 1985, Shell has owned three emergency response trailers. These were on call to the industry and situated in Alberton, Durban and Port Elizabeth to supply a rapid response to vehicle roll overs and incidents that required special equipment for emptying vessels or tankers before lifting or fixing them.

"The new vehicle is set to bring the standard of Easigas's emergency response services up to world safety standards as it is now a totally self-contained, rapid response unit and no longer needs to be towed to the incident," adds Dennis.

Based in Alberton, the Easigas Emergency Response vehicle will be able to service the inland region. The vehicle will be made available to industry to assist in any LPG related incidents.
