Apology

FleetWatch would like to apologise to Fast 'n Fresh for stating in an article titled Biodiesel - Panacea or Pipedream? published in our February edition that the company experienced a 16% increase in fuel consumption in tests using biodiesel. Gavin Wilson, managing director of Fast 'n Fresh, says this figure was unauthenticated and wrong and that, in reality, Fast 'n Fresh has experienced NO increase in consumption since using a 5% blend of Biodiesel - nor any other negative consequences. "We blend the products in a controlled environment and audit the specification on a regular basis," says Wilson.

FleetWatch regrets this error understanding that fuel is an extremely sensitive issue because of the high cost it represents. Stating the fact that a company's fuel cost has increased because of a 16% increase in consumption is not the sign of a prudent and efficient transporter and could damage a company's credibility in the eyes of its customers. FleetWatch apologises for this error and for any embarrassment it may have caused to Fast 'n Fresh. As an aside, we're thrilled to hear that the company has experienced no increase in consumption - nor any other negative consequences - in their tests using a 5% blend of biodiesel. Perhaps this could mean a breakthrough for the biodiesel advocators.

Editor's Note

In the February edition of FleetWatch, we mentioned that we would be carrying Part 2 of the Colesberg story in this edition where solutions to the problems would be discussed and highlighted. This article has been held over so as to solicit more comment on the issue.
