Matrix adds Crash Alert

The vastly increased number of new cars and trucks being sold in South Africa may be good news for manufacturers and suppliers but not so for emergency services which are reporting an increase in the number of road accidents.

In fact, the point is fast being reached - if not already there - where emergency services will be hard pressed to make it to all accident scenes within the so called 'Golden Hour'. Quick notification is thus becoming more and more imperative for timeous response.

It is with all this in mind that Matrix Vehicle Tracking, which has always stood apart from its competition through the personal safety options available with their tracking units, has launched its Crash Alert, a potentially life saving device to be fitted with its top of the range vehicle tracking unit.

Up until now, the 'personal safety' attributes of Matrix's systems have included the introduction of panic buttons, internet tracking, No-Go zones and trauma counselling. Now there's Crash Alert which, as the name implies, is an automatic notification device which activates in the event of an accident.

Matrix has joined forces with International SOS (ISOS) to provide both the Emergency Medical response and Roadside Assistance needed in the event of a collision.

Crash Alert is a tiny sensor that is fitted within the vehicles frame. Should an accident occur - one which is similar to the power needed to deploy an airbag - an alert is sent to the Matrix Vehicle Tracking and ISOS control rooms simultaneously. ISOS will immediately dispatch an ambulance and then call the client to determine the extent of any injuries. If the client does not require medical assistance, ISOS will recall the ambulance. If ISOS cannot get hold of the client and it is determined that the vehicle is still moving (via further GPS positions obtained), it is concluded that the alarm is false and they will recall the ambulance.

Having the exact GPS coordinates also means less time spent in looking for the accident scene which in turn, shaves valuable minutes off the "golden hour".

Unlike other devices, Matrix's Crash Alert is completely automatic, giving peace of mind to the driver that should he or she be rendered unconscious on a quiet road, help will come. This will be particularly comforting to truck drivers who often experience mishaps off the beaten tracks.

FleetWatch compliments Matrix on this new innovative feature. It really does honour the company's promise that its customers are people and not vehicles and is another step in caring for its clientele.
