The sign tells the real story

THIS MAY NOT be an official, legal sign but its hats off to the person who put it up on the R527 for it sure as heck tells the truth. Given that some 40% of all fatalities in road accidents in South Africa are pedestrians, perhaps more of such signs should be planted in danger areas, especially around squatter camps such as the one on Beyers Naude in Johannesburg where many drunken pedestrians stagger into the road and are knocked down or killed. Not only will it warn motorists of the danger of drunken pedestrians ahead but it might just act to prevent the locals from using the roads as fall-down zones when they’re dronk.

Black Engineering Pool

In what is regarded as a concrete step by industry towards ensuring that broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) codes have their intended effect, Naacam, the Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) and the Nelson Mandela Metro have pooled resources to double the number of black engineers recruited into the elite Automotive Experiential Career Development Programme (AECDP).
