MTU OPENS REGIONAL CENTRE |
Good news for all owners of Detroit Diesel powered trucks is that wholly-owned subsidiary MTU has opened a regional centre operating from Aeroport Industrial at Kempton Park.
The new centre will cater for all DaimlerChrysler off-highway applications as well as Detroit Diesel Corporation on-highway applications offering full support such as 24-hour service, spare parts, swing engines, training, major overhauls, on-site and field support.
Seen in the accompanying photograph is well-known Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) man, Dave Nicol with the first local installation of a new DDC Series 60/1850 that is being tested in a Freightliner. Says Nicol, now regional manager, inland for MTU:
"Our new Detroit Diesel Series 60 is a 14 litre motor with 1850 ft lbs of torque (Yankee for 2500 Nm). We have also extended the sump capacity by 14 litres of oil to protect the lubrication system from too early degradation of TBN values. In addition this new 6-in-line engine is fitted with an Intebrake engine brake and DDC 4th generation electronic management systems."

The MTU regional centre has installed the latest dynamometer test equipment that can also test massive earthmoving diesel engine power. Seen here is a V-12 engine of some 2 000 horsepower being tested on the bench. |
