As FleetWatch
was going to print we learned
that PFK Electronics has formed an arrangement with MAN Truck
& Bus South Africa to install the Alcolock system into MAN
commercial vehicles as an aftermarket fitment.
MAN product
manager, FX Laubscher, says MAN opted for the system following
an enquiry from one of its customers, whose tender for a
contract would only be accepted if the trucks were fitted with
breathalysers.
Laubscher
describes Alcolock, which can be fitted to all MAN trucks, as
a high value fleet management tool with huge potential in the
road transport industry. |

Against
all ODDS

2006, living in a shack in abject poverty desperately trying to find any
kind work to feed his family, Aubrey Molaba’s life epitomised that of
millions of South Africans living on the fringes of society. The New South
Africa, with its promises of opportunities and a better life for all was,
for all intents and purposes, a hollow dream.

Major Gabonese road project
A major road construction project that
will, on completion, increase the length of paved roads in
Gabon by around 25%, (the current length of paved roads in
Gabon is 1060 km), was launched in Gabon in early August.
Linking Yaounde,
Libreville and Brazzaville, the road is part of the
Tripoli-Windhoek trans-African highway, and is integral to the
sub-region's economic integration.
The project will
improve Gabon's internal transport infrastructure and will
enhance economic growth, facilitate the supply of agricultural
inputs and manufactured goods and promote the development of
tourism, industry, trade in food crops and livestock. It will
also improve access to basic social and health services as
well as education.
This is the
largest transport sector project ever financed by the African
Development Bank Group which is providing 90% of the 186
billion CfAF (about R3,15-billion) cost of the project.
