Measuring Africa Increased vigilance by traffic authorities as well as the drive for self management in the road transport sector has resulted in an increased demand for weighbridges in SADC countries. This is the message from Jonathan Palmer, MD of Sasco Africa (Sasco), speaking at the launch of the company’s new generation weighbridge systems.
Sasco, which currently dominates the heavy duty sector of the market with its Bilanciai WB 120 ton and WB 80 ton weighbridges, has intoduced what it calls a new “groundbreaking” weighbridge system that converts a standard pit mounted weighbridge into a dyanamic in-motion axle weigher at the push of a button. Dubbed “ThruWeigh” the system is aimed largely at quarries, ports and waste site operations. It is able to weigh vehicles at speeds up to 5 km/h to within 1% accuacry. Palmer explains that as soon as a vehicle drives onto the weighbridge, the system measures and records the first axle weight, when the second axle comes onto the deck, it subtracts the first axle weight from the new weight reading to give the second axle weight. This procedure continues until all axles have been individually weighed. Coupled to this, Sasco have introduced a new weighbridge software package called “Sasco OneWeigh” that allows operators to access and integrate weighbridge data into third party fleet management systems. Sasco says OneWeigh has a number of key modules all designed to improve overall fleet management and reduce operating costs. These modules include truck overload warnings, edit and maintenance of weigh transactions, proof of delivery documentation and so on. |
