Achieving optimum CPK from tyres goes beyond the issues of selection, inflation, alignment and rotation and according to Monal Naik, Bandag’s product manager, “Fleet operating costs can be significantly decreased by not only using tyres that perform consistently, but by implementing a rigorous tyre management programme.” Bandag offers a range of valueadded services and tools that assist in this process, he adds. “The ‘Bandag Package of Value’, as we like to refer to it, consists of Fleet surveys, scrap analysis, route surveys and various training programmes all aimed at assisting fleets and tyre service providers to lower fleet operating costs. It does not, however, end there. All the information gathered is useless unless analysed and a corrective action plan put together to rectify any issues found.” Bandag has been at the forefront of software development to aid just this process, continues Naik. “We have a survey reporting tool, a scrap tyre analysis tool with more than 200 000 tyres on record and probably the best tyre management software available globally, within our arsenal. Recently, The Bandag Fleet Performance Solution was launched internally and is a web-based tool designed to capture and report on fleet inspections and scrap analysis. “The information gathered is captured into the system and reports are generated, which are then discussed with responsible persons for corrective actions to be effected. Continuous monitoring is done to ensure ongoing savings for the fleet. Of course, the end result is a reduction in fleet operating costs which ultimately translates into lower CPK.” |
