Supplements - Driver Health
for Truckers
Driver
Fatigue
Driving a truck is not your average
nine-to-five job. The hours a long distance driver spends behind
the wheel are long and nothing prevents a driver from driving as
long as he can stay awake!
Driver Fatigue has been identified
as a number one killer on the road. Learn to recognise the signs
and take the necessary steps to becoming a safer driver on the road.
Danger Signals for Drowsy Drivers
- Your eyes close or go out of focus
by themselves.
- You have trouble keeping your head
up.
- You can't stop yawning.
- You have wandering, disconneted
thoughts.
- You don't remember driving the last
few miles.
- You have missed your exit.
- You keep drifting out of your lane.
- Your speed becomes variable.
Be Alert, Not Just Awake
- Always get a good nights sleep before
you drive.
- Drink carbonated fruit juices for
a quick energy boost.
- Talk to your friends on CB or cell
phone or play lively music.
- Plan your stops ahead of time.
- Practice pro-active driving - keep
your eyes moving, check mirrors, dials, controls, the road, etc.
constantly.
- Do not daydream - take notice of
your surroundings and try actively to occupy your mind.
- Don't drive with interior light
on - it strains your eyes and distorts your vision.
- Drive in a comfortable position
- don't slouch.
