Supplements - Driver Health for Truckers Foreword
A healthy driver is a safe, happy and economical driver. Pause a moment and think of this. Each and every one of us strives for happiness in our jobs. After all, we spend so much time at work that to be anything but happy is a pretty self defeating object. In the case of a truck driver who spends hours on his own and does so while having under his care what can amount to millions of Rand worth of assets, the strain of the on-the-road operations in the trucking industry is intense and taxes both his physical and mental capabilities. His happiness and effectiveness is therefore determined to a large degree by his overall ability to manage these inputs in such a way that they enhance rather than depress his resources - and that depends largely on the state of his health. Having the right truck to do the right job is only one input into economical operations; having a healthy driver to operate the truck is another. Through this booklet, it is hoped that all transport operators will elevate the subject of driver health onto the high level of importance it deserves. Don't ignore driver health issues.
